Robert Shaw was born in Maui and his English name was thought to have been given to him by the Missionaries while he was still in Hawaii. During the 1800's the Hudson Bay Company sent an agent to Hawaii to recruit men as cheap labour for their trading business here in British Columbia. How and why Robert Shaw left his beautiful Islands, we do not know but he arrived here probably after 1830.
About the year 1870, robert met the young native girl from the Sechelt band, she was now about the age of 15 when married. Robert, his wife and child, moved to Departure Bay.
